Army Ets Dity Move Weight

TO MY CHILDREN

How did this wonderful adventure?
I worked hard and even in personal terms, this probably cost me a lot, but I needed to do so, or search through millions of paperwork the origins of the country where I grew up I loved and that after I left for work. It all started one day, or rather one night while I was having dinner with Monsignor Giulio Farina in 2002 when I explained that as a joke, I started a simple search through the archives of the City of Piana di Monte Verna which I assure you are rich interesting papers and parchments for the time, namely 800. The pastor urged me, in fact mi incitò a continuare e io mi feci trascinare in quella che oggi considero una meravigliosa avventura - iniziata e terminata -.

Start the revolution that lead to the emergence of Commons ... including those of plain and Villa Santa Croce ... The Paschal Canon

The turning point came with the rise of Charles de Bourbon, which implements a reform in the apparatus of state which had never previously recorded.
Collateral Council was abolished and instead it was established the Royal Chamber of S. Clear. It was established the State Council, was created on a wide customary courts, was created by the Supreme Judge of the Commerce and Consulates of land and sea and in the reform of the structure of government with the modern ministerial system. Also do not forget the Concordat of 1741, which sanctioned a principle never violated in recent history, or that the church property were subject to taxation. The Bourbons
ushered in a 'period of reforms, laying the groundwork for a state administrative and centralized, although Neapolitan intellectuals like Joseph Maria Galanti, claimed to progress a single country and a constitution.
addition to Galanti, including Gaetano Filangieri, Antonio Genovesi, Melchior Delfico advancing this requirement, and indeed the cornerstone for making significant improvements to the civil society was to abolish the feudal system, as was a condition that, according to Galanti was more pronounced in this Kingdom and elsewhere. However
than the Bourbons, could the French domination, though short-lived.
It was decisive for the civil and legal transformation of the Kingdom of Naples, as was finally the abolition of feudalism.
Joseph Napoleon with the Law nr. 130, August 2, 1806, formally abolished the feudal system, was one of the first steps taken by the new King of Naples, divenutovi only 5 months (March 30, 1806) excluding Sicily, where the feudal system was abolished by decree of Ferdinand nr. 910 dated 02.06.1813.
was given immediate importance to the University, as recognized as autonomous entities, with the option to be governed according to common law, the no. 211 of 18.10.1806, although in the first two years after the abolition of feudalism, in addition to the mayor we have as a representative of the city government also two high courts (administrative papers 1741 -1810) or the Governor Frank Paolella and that of Lieutenant of the Royal Court held by Nicholas Perillo, who had not only powers in the district of Caiazzo, but also in other [1] .
But as you get to this? And above all, who and what gave the input for all these changes? To give an idea of \u200b\u200bhow the events evolved, just take a 'look at the Diario Napoletano set forth below, several important events occurred in 1799. Big events
animated our land, starting from the capital of the kingdom, Naples just in great turmoil, and finally to expand throughout the territory dominated by it. Carlo De Nicola, with his work cited above, the Neapolitan Diary of 1799, explains As was the bitter struggle for power and interests in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The story as it is, has not been modified in any part of it, including all notes that are due to the author. At some point in the story, you may well notice that he saw the plan as a land skirmish that pits the French against the English sides.

Diario Napoletano

"goodbye before 1799. You start to say that Spain will take the protection of our kingdom, and that any fix for an armistice for three months, being subject to such parties with whom the deputies was Cisalpino accompanied the minister. The consternation in the city is so large that it is abandoned by the two first orders of knights and gentlemen, who have withdrawn in your vicinity, and even today with my family, I retired to the country villa in Antignano. Addi
2. Members of the City have been brought by Pignatelli, and have made the request of the castles, the Pignatelli has denied, but the city is confident that this fear can not occur, has submitted the plan of the urban militia, and asked for weapons for the same; Pignatelli has kept the plan to observe it. Gaeta is in the hands of the French, who entered without noise.
The news in any treaty with the French continue, both a ceasefire and for peace. The people are quiet, and I am stopped those who were encouraging, this is addressed by the deputation of the city, which in making the plan of the troop was also in civic dissent, because the Duke of s. Demetrius wanted to organize it as a military body can also go out in the country, but the others objected, so the plan was formed for the sole custody of the city. It is said that Capua is capitulating, as they say that it is also evacuated by now, the more certain is that he is being treated, and perhaps join the French troops in Naples with our own head.
Up to this point, I thought to warn that the entire ruin della nostra armata sia dipesa da difetto del comando.
Addi
4. This morning there was the news that follows. They introduced yesterday the French troops surrender to intimacy in Capua. Went out to meet the Prince of Moliterno, the eldest son of the Prince of Marsico, who in the war of Lombardy three years are also distinguished himself, having lost an eye toltogli by a musket-ball, and said that the keys of the city were in the mouths of guns, and that he would not yield the square until he had blood in his veins. He then withdrew
the heralds, and set about attacking the troops. Moliterno dismounted, visited the artillery and animated his troops, is said to have deprived the officers of artillery, because he found the guns non atti, a far fuoco, rimontò indi a cavallo, si pose alla testa e diede l'attacco che cominciò alle ore 18 e terminò la sera avanzata.
Dei nostri ne morirono 300; dei Francesi seven hundred killed and wounded, and 300 prisoners. Gaeta also is said to catch it again, but the news is not sure yet. For what it is called the French garrison was only 300, and was all butchered. The fact of the village of Loreto de 'soldiers that I reported above is not true, other than that it was not a lot of deserters who battette with that regiment, all was dippiú alteration. It has set foot in the urban militia, composed entirely of workers per shift driven by a noble, a wealthy and a law professor: they have weapons of ammunition, but not enough, it was ordered by decree the seizure of weapons, those who have the own goal. The plan was formed by the City with the intelligence of the Vicar Pignatelli. He ordered a Triduum for the churches. Addi
6, you say the anecdotes of the following di Capua, varied and many, and I know they are. 16 showed up at two commissioners, and it is said even with their wives, they requested of General de Mack, and led to parley with him. Shortly after we saw the advance vanguard French, General de Gambs with Colonel Moliterno did hear that they had not advanced, but who continued the march, so Gambs Moliterno and prepared themselves to fight them. Moliterno visitar wanted the troops, the forts and artillery, and here it is said that they found the guns, or poorly fitted, or loads of sand, so Moliterno wanted it located and charges before him, indeed he stesso si pose a pulirli e caricarli.
Si also says he's back d. Andrea Pignatelli Cerchiara with the answer of the French general, who wanted to know was that in the name of those who want to be treated, whether in the name of the nation, it deserved every respect, whether in the name of the King, they should not feel because emigrated, but not sure what I write, because news is not verified.
The King is said to have done in Palermo a manifesto in which case the Neapolitans from felons, such is the hatred that led him to conceive with a population that has given him the greatest proof of attachment, and is sure that if the return from Rome he was thrown into the arms of the nation, as he did in a similar occasion Maria Theresa of Austria, he would the same from Naples, and His Kingdom is not in danger.
It is said also that in Palermo, where he was well received the royal family, having to keep Parliament, it being understood that the King wanted to intervene, and put in dispute whether or not you were am-put, and the day that Parliament was summoned, SM being unwell, he wanted to go there the Queen, but she was so well received, another protesting the Sicilians, who do-Veva first discuss the proposed questions, and then it would be am-placed in Parliament, even those two stories are to be verified .
The population while the grace of God is still, and contributes greatly to maintaining the trust they have in the Neapolitan saint Protector, and the concept of a servant of the living God Priest d. Tommaso Fiore, ottagenario old, who has consistently said and tells everyone that fidassero in God, quiet tonight, and did not fear the proximity of the French.
The urban militia was organized in this way: 14 000 men and all the troops Civic, which should serve only to quiet the city can not be forced to get out of the district, composed entirely of workforce, divided into twelve districts, each employees from two districts of a noble squares. The headquarters is in St. City of Lawrence home, where they sit and the elected Members who are leading this troop, two nobles and two gentlemen preside at all the body, and each district also has two nobles and two gentlemen are in command of the division to be circling the neighborhood. The guard takes 24 hours for each, and the weapons are of ammunition. Addi
7. This morning it was seen arriving in Naples from the Prince of Capua Moliterno, and this gave rise to the rumor that Capua had the contract, on the contrary there is news that things are in the same state after the action took place. Addi
8. The voice that Capua had the contract was false. Moliterno is said to be coming to Naples to confer with the Vicar Pignatelli about the continuation of the defense of Capua, where food is said to lack the troops. The action you said, there are those who reduces it to very few things, as well as other small shareholders, they say, that yesterday was the way to the Plain of Caiazzo, a hamlet in the Town, including a patrol commanded by the Duke of Naples Roccaromana with a French patrol, which was defeated. From Naples after returning d. Andrea Pignatelli with the answer of the French General, I left the Chalk of the Duke family of Judge Caracciolo, and the prince of the family Migliano Loffredo, it is believed that vadino to negotiate on behalf of the City. There are those who say that last night they had found the posters sent by the French General, with the protests come not to offend but to raise the nation, with the promise not to offend anyone, to keep the same money to the troops, and to allow all soldiers lever forced to return to their families. It also says that our immigrant, former judge of the Admiralty, Francesco Mario Pagano, is with the Constitution for the Republic Vesuvius.
This evening about an hour a night he saw a big fire, and has been known to be the ships that have been delivered to the flames along the beach of Chiaia, and lasted a good part of the night. It is believed the sign of the nearby entrance of 'the French, since the norms established by this government were not to leave them prey' his enemies. The silver goes to a director who is not believed to mint for coinage, but to send them to Sicily. We are in a state of violence that I do not know we're going to end. Addi
9. There was news of the action of Caiazzo. Occurred exactly between the country and its Piana. This place, for another of some importance, had been invaded, it was therefore start again from our own, not only to have rejected and defeated the invaders, but also made various prisoners. Later the Duke of Roccaromana commanding the squadron of his regiment, the first Leopold, who cleverly advancing enemy column for another fall in Caiazzo, went out to meet, and the prisoners battette entirely by a colonel, several officers and many soldiers. The Duke of Roccaromana was immediately promoted to the rank of Brigadier, however, lies wounded in the leg approaches the knee, as it had not yet introduced a ball that if was able to drive away. Today we came into Naples about 200 French prisoners, taken in the middle of a main wheel of volunteers armed with Mojana I do not know what the news because I just arrived. Addi
10. Today news are different for the most part false. Benevento said he was taken by 'the French, and beyond that the garrison was withdrawn, but it was not true. It is said that the Portuguese, who were burned at the hands of the woods the other night at sea, they tried again last night set fire to the large fabrica de 'barns at Magdalen Bridge, but was no less true, since there was a false alarm that have seen trans-port de 'wounded soldiers escorted from the ranks, which were cre-Duti Portuguese. It is said to have been in Caiazzo a second fact-at-arms with our loss, but it was nothing but a rumor born from our own. Addi
11. This morning I left again to the two Members, Duke and Prince of the Chalk Migliano Championnet to return from the general, with whom they are dealing. It is believed that you get the armistice of four months. This treaty is supported by only Pignatelli no intelligence of the City. Continuity between these and its election of the noise and discussions with the Icarian V Pignatelli. Not having the Elected Town none response to their request, made the day before yesterday a full representation, with which, inter alia, demanded that the civic guard mount, stationed in the castles and keep it strong all the cities joined the military guard. The general did say Pignatelli, who did not ingest it in what had just been committed, is to sustain the urban militia only for peace of the people. Members and elected officials joined in, and there were those who suggested that since Pignatelli with money kept the people on his side, should be using the same means to secure to the body of the city, but failed to find plausible that feeling, it was resolved to surrender entirely. So you say you did this morning, and having to preach to the public with posters printed. Who knows what will end this race. The news while you say, Concluded is that almost any general peace, that the Emperor is the mediator for us, and that the King is to return with 30 000 men in the mass of troops raised on the island of Sicily. It expects the column 7 thousand men of Neapolitan troops, commanded by Lieutenant General Damas. He committed to finding the Tuscany, and not being able to go back after the withdrawal of troops, opened the way for force of arms to the Presidio of Tuscany, where he is. Three attacks have occurred with the French and always came up with the benefit, up to ensure that the French asked him armistice. So much so that the bleakness of our armed stemmed from the bad command of General Mack and others. Addi
12. This morning has spread voice that the French had occupied Capua, a voice that has put people on alert, so they began to close the quiet people, and those of the market, and other Lavinaio most populous city, came together in troops and placed in ambush in the contours of Capodichino. It was learned later that any sign the armistice of two months with the French general. The conditions are as they say to fit in Capua and Benevento half French and half Neapolitan garrison, and to pay half a million ducats in cash.
Tonight manuscripts were warning signs that proclaim an armistice, and data are to print the posters having them sent to the Vicar Pignatelli two knights and gentlemen of the people withdrew sopra Capodichino.
L'armistizio publicato fu vero. In seguito di tale armistizio Capua è evacuala dai nostri e per pagarsi la metà dei due milioni e mezzo si prende il danaro contante che vi era rimasto, e si espongono in vendita i beni allodiali della Corte e dei luoghi pii, da pagarsi a danaro contante, rilasciandosi ai compratori il 50 per % per the home that runs on the currency, so that a fund estimated for 1500, on account of example, is released by 1000. It is said, any office in Palermo for the million more readily.
The crater is a weapon and is said by order of the French general. The noise between the City and the Vicar-General continue Pignatelli, Members of City having done more to prevent grievances estraregnazione the cash, the burning ship, and get custody of the arsenal and the granary of the bridge, do not deserve response from Generally, for which the deputation has printed and made to run for City his grievances, lest we all know. It is feared some confusion because the two parties were formed, one for the city, the other for Pignatelli, and is believed to be armed. Members of the City are as follows: Duke of Castelluccio, Prince of Canosa, Ottavio Caracciolo, Cicinelli, Duke of s. Arpino, Trans marquis, duke of Bagnoli, Gaetano Spinelli Duke of Seminara, Prince of Piedimonte, son of Montemiletto, Marchese del Vaglio, son of the Duke of Monteleone, Giuseppe Colonna, Vincenzo Severino Secli, Prince of Angri, Count della Rocca Marigliano, Marquis Caccavone, Michele Picenna elect people, Presti consultant Gennaro, Raffaele Spas. Addi
14. This morning the Court was suspended because of the noise made by prisoners the other day, wanting to force the prison and walked away, shouting, as they say: live France, long live the assembly. The urban militia fired, and the prisoners corresponded with shots from inside the small piston guns. This morning, therefore, the Court was closed because he had driven the prisoners and transported to St. Elmo. Days came from the castles are more than a hundred prisoners for reasons of state, including, d. Nicole Fasulo, D. Nicola Galis, d. Happy Saponara, the fencer Marco de Gaetano, et al. Addi
15. Last night the people, having heard that they expected the French to the theater, he went armed and turning the city, arresting the coaches to see if they contain them; the theater was closed, and the whole city was in turmoil. This point in the morning I write Antignano villa above Naples, where I am, is all in uproar, and is said to be Naples' in revolt. It is known that last night the people turned all the theaters to see if there were any French troops disarmed the troops and the regular Civic. This morning, the people knew that reforms be introduced by sea of \u200b\u200bweapons, has surprised the woods, he is armed and occupied the villages dell'Ovo and Carmine, was launched towards the Royal Palace, where the Vicar is Pignatelli, not you know the dippiù.
Bless the people has been increasingly enhanced. Have taken possession of all the villages have forzatala dockyard and arsenal, from which they extracted the weapons to arm themselves. It views the columns are popular with the flag leaf unfolded and tambourine, the streets shouting: 'Long live the King Priests crucifix, surrounded by the people, putting down turned. It is said to have asked Prince Moliterno to get to their head to march against the French.
The move is said to stem from posters that had been routed by inviting the people to freedom of political opinion. The French general in two hours last night escaped from Naples escorted from the Piazza Maggiore. The regular troops were all unarmed, was not built castles in the resistance, the only St. Elmo wanted to resist, and had made up the bridges, but then sold without noise, all the royal standard was hoisted. For the city have closed all the shops and buildings of the houses, the only shops open are edible, because the popular assured not to worry. Throughout this revolt was not meant to have done no violence, nor committed any excess against property and persons, and all the orgasm was born out of fear of not being sacrificed to the French without defense, fearing the armistice, under quasicchè species armistice had not made a sale of the entire kingdom to the French. Pignatelli do not know what it is, but he is undoubtedly due to the incident noise, having wanted to act alone or without the intelligence of the body of the city and the people. Because if this had been called to the Treaty would not so alarmed believing betrayed. I will notice more precisely as the news reached me. Addi
16. The revolt of the people continues, and is the most serious that can be. For news had started the move dall'affissione before the armistice terms, which then crept edict not to offend the French, who entered the city. This happened the other night, immediately the people began to riot thinking betrayed as he was given to 'French Capua, where they gave him ten million [2] and reforms be introduced in Naples. Have begun to turn the theaters and to disarm the militias. The popular morning occupied the villages, burglary customs, the armory, and saccheggiarono tutto per armarsi. Military ranks there is none at all having been disarmed and fired all the people. This morning during a Pizzofalcone and Nunziatella, where is the college of cadets to take up arms. They do an exact case to the marina, where they carried guns, the city also have set de 'guns, not convinced that can not handle them in any case of aggression. The weapons found on the wood that came in yesterday and were surprised by the people, were undoubtedly French, because I observed a rifle in registration with the grooved piston manifacturée at Versailles. This morning the shops were all open and also benches, where the daily charge is made con quiete, dandosi i soliti cinque carlini a persona che si danno da più tempo.
Who says
directed straight to the French General. That which is certain is that the people immediately ran to his house on s. Joseph degl'lgnudi, arrested him and brought into the city, whence Ligato then with his hands in the back, almost dragged him to the castle of Mount Caramel: his house was completely looted [3] . I forgot to warn that have been opened all the prisons, freed prisoners and those who were held in castles. What are the consequences of this popular uprising rovinosissima not difficult to say. Until now the people want the king, and has spread rumor that you expect from Sicily with forty thousand men. Addi
17. For news had the move of the people began to take shape under the direction of more regular Moliterno. He hires on behalf of the City in two pugs a day, and three who have a family to be married. They put the forks for the large city to stop the crimes being started some blackmail that has been done by some troops of people, who under the color you want to eat, went from house to house receiving food and money. Some disorder is also caused from the weapons in the hands of those who can not handle them, so that some person has been injured and even dead. Yet there was some fight. It is said that yesterday before the palace was crowded Moliterno mighty nation, he appeared ordinandogli che tutta si unisse nella spiaggia di Chiaia, ove sarebbesi portato per dare gli ordini necessarii, e fu immediatamente obbedito.
Un altro di Moliterno, che dopo aver ringraziato il popolo della fiducia che ha in he orders the formation of 12 battalions of troops civic, which assigns two pugs a day, every battalion of 170 men each, assigned to his district to ensure that custody should not enter into another neighborhood, and this is to prevent the riots which occurred on day yesterday, that the people attacked each other mob. Sort by those who have more than one gun to hand, lest those who serve to be without, and should serve in the ranks Civic. Every thirty steps you should place a candle or a lantern to keep the city lit up at night, it being the burden of enlightening those who are in that neighborhood. The guns were removed from the city, and located ten trucks, four to the market, and art in 'various parts of the city. Yesterday's troops were going house to house people earning money, taking note of the houses to which they intended to make such visits were content to 20 or 30 pugs, yet on paper. Even the streets were doing de 'blackmail; from the granaries of the bridge they took two hundred tomoli grain merchant, Sinno.
D. Joseph Zurlo, here is the news that turned out. He was arrested on his steering wheel with a letter whose direction was outside with her sister. It was open and found himself directly to General de Mack, contained very nearly the following words: These people furious is all up in arms, come to crack down with two columns of our army, but provide surprise of the night. Please use it to the French General that the first million if the had to pay, is in my power, I do and I am responsible. The people taken in the sense that more bad reading, ran to his house, arrested him with the waiter, and two of his friends brought him to town, where the sustained confrontation with the steering wheel, which ensured that he was her ticket. The people wanted
thrilled that musketeer, and it was not just send it to the Castle of the Egg, where you can find. His house was completely looted, and all the furniture was sold, exposed for sale on the streets. They also wanted to burn it, and they would run, if the owner of the building was not rushed to say that it was his.
The city is now quieter and running everywhere processions of penitence, especially religious families. The PP. Gerolomini have come out barefooted, the Dominicans and the Conventual came out, countless other people's womanly, all went to the chapel of the Treasury, is exposed when the s. protector. I mentioned the two edicts, one of the city that I present, contains five articles. His preface is as follows: "The city and inner peace on the deputation, who until his election with labors, pointing to dangers and thrills, it is wholly committed to serve this faithful public, and has clearly demonstrated that it had in any account betrayed that trust, that the same has been good enough to fidargli, but the Public Security appears to have greater needs, he doubled his tireless care, no risk and treating agitation in which she was found. And since there's no doubt that the terrible hardship, below which any population may groan, that is anarchy, or that without being all commanders and regime leaders, they slide through the streets of boldly senz'avere out that other object that to disturb the peace and quiet that the only object form, and lead to happiness, so the city and the deputation made up of individuals of both Squares noble than those of the people under those ample and extended power communicated to them by Squares same, orders and commands:
lst That each district form a Alliste of his troops, to settle which should be the most honest people, quiet and wise, each one of which will serve as a leader, which will occur in cities or in the headquarters of s. Lorenzo, to be recognized as a leader subordinate.
2 ° That in the event of having to clamor in the city, or ask something, are always no more than two of the animals for a time, lest we turn away any signs of noise, and tumult, so fatal in these circumstances.
3 ° In any event that would stop any person suspected or guilty, is conducted in a small town patrol needed PEL needs, yet avoided any noise lest he might have the air of sedition, the ruinous for the Public peace.
4 ° That all those people who are out Alliste, be absolutely compelled to 'spropriarsi weapons, and not to appear armed in public, each having to be persuaded that any contravenzione orders issued, will be punished with the rigor of military punishment.
5 ° The city and the deputation had also heard PUBLICATION, and having had a Formal Public requests which show clearly the right people have confidence that this fidelissima the most worthy person of our patrician Mr. Prince Moliterno, so brave and loyal, and attached to the August person of the King NS, so the city and the deputation to comply with requests publice, dichiara il detto sig.
I'll go write it down entirely without summing up, the simple introduction, and a few clips transcribe the letter. The title is an invitation to the people of Prince Moliterno Napoletano [4] , following the preface: The quiet

Neapolitans good yesterday I onoraste you with the name of your defender and now protected by such a name, come to pray in the name of God and country to do what I'm going to blindly dictate, making sure that my only and main purpose is to see you happy and then rightly deserve your love. And I swear to God I will only vote that will be to punish me with the lightning of his justice, if I slontano a single moment of such an idea. They start

18. The City should explain a system that always shows the change of government, and this morning they posted three claims with the same title as notice to the public. One of them said all the places of the banished royal hunts and is designed as follows: The city
and MP for inner peace that has taken the reins of provisorio government, allows anyone to fish and hunt in all the sites of royal domains, which were first banned, and he who dare to prevent it, soggiacerà immediate punishment of death. From headquarters s. Lorenzo them January 17, 1799.
With the other on the same day: with the special consent of the patrician general commander of the Neapolitan people, Mr. Prince Moliterno, says general commander in the second Duke of another patrician Roccaromana in order to assist in organizing the troops and the Civic line and participate in all its cities and deputies. With the third in the same date, four other patricians eligge castle for the four castles of the city. These provisions seems to show a sketch of aristocracy, we'll see. To stop the Director
Zurlo further news is that two letters were written by him, one to General Mack, and the other to the general French Championnet, very nearly the standard was the same. Raised the revolt, and gl'incaricava to come to surprise the people at night with guns machine guns, he added, writing on behalf of General Pignatelli. The latter's escape was facilitated by a famous chief paranza Luciano Luigi's last name, against which you are inquirenda, as well s'inquire against the Marquis Taccone, as one who had provided the cash for extraregnare pass in Sicily, and you want it Wood was arrested carrying that cash. Were also arrested nine cases stuff pertaining to the general Pignatelli. It is said that at last. yet was surprised and stopped the escape of General Mack with the case of military, and indeed it is written to the Duke of Calandra, and it is said in iscambio Mack, having been attacked by troops near Aversa civic [5] .
The crisis that we are violent, we hope will be resolved in our favor, and let whatever. The people are sedated, but it is no surprise some of blackmail for homes, although no noise, just the home of the director d. Francis Hunt is said to have been looted. This minister was one of the inquisitors of State Government. The city beyond the provisions of the above dates, he also ordered that the flour it falls to 10 tomolo pugs, so that the flower has been lowered from 36 to 26, and so the flour in proportion. Addi
19. Last night at about seven were performed three cannon shots from the castle s. Elmo, it was learned that a party Pignatelli, or at least contrary to the people, eras brought
to take it, but the garrison of the castle took the bridge and fired, so seeing that party resisted, broke up not to be known [ 6] . Having gone
commander Moliterno to treat co 'the French, they had to answer, that they wanted to enter, or as friends or as enemies who wanted to treat the home straight with the people, and their desire to want to hand in their castles. The people did not will not assent, and is again reinforced.
D. Joseph Zurlo has been released, and the city has ordered that anyone who has stuff, books, or cards of the same, the ports in s. Lorenzo. The people are given into a rage again, start again has the weapons, and scrolls through the city in search of those he believes Jacobins. Took the home of Duke Tower Filomarino the news that there eras unit a lunch of joy for the approach of the French. He took the prince and his brother after equilibration among pei most populous city, has finally shot, and then gave the bag to house them. Other houses have suffered feels degl'insulti [7] . This evening the City body has come out in procession with the statue of St. Gennaro. The Prince Moliterno with the banner at the head of the people proceeded barefoot, from two o'clock until six o'clock at night he always rode. The armed people as it always has been divided by the order of the district d. th Prince. This gentleman has made more speeches to the people, but I do not know the content. There was a rumor that two hours of the night enters the French troops, and that there was a party of intelligence; this. produced the alarm of the people, and the surprise he has done and is doing to homes that believes suspicious. Then there are matches that are determined only on account plunder, so peaceful and the people in distress, using the pretext that it is the enemy of the Popular of the country who does not take up arms. It is a perfect anarchy, everything is chaos and noise, the crisis is very violent, and is close to development. Addi
20. Still sounds popular. Last night was the City that some little to quell the people, went out with the procession of s. Gennaro, who was followed by immense armed people. What is said to have given cause effervescence popular answer was that led the deputies who were sent to Capua to treat co 'French, that they absolutely wanted to go to treat in the middle of Naples, they wanted to castles, response brought to the people, he said absolutely not want this, in security who enter the French have done as in Rome, whence came no more, having also come as friends to deal with the Pope Moliterno the resolution of the people, responded with a harangue made on the same steps of the church of St. Paul, telling him that he did not trust himself to resist, and yet each one had to defend itself. The people understood this arms race, and I think everyone was a result of the party of 'Jacobean interior, you gave it will come looking for homes. Glue procession gave some shelter, but many were in the houses attacked, as well as the unfortunate Duke of Torre and his brother. It is said that other members also went to the popular Championnet general, who said he did not want them to receive, but then ricevutili said, not wanting to hear more, and giaacchè did not want to enter here as a friend, would be entered as an enemy. The People's Deputies, among whom some of the old, they told him that they came from, because they would be received properly.
In fact, the people carrying with artillery and artillery and fortified Aversa Capodichino, nor dare to enter the French last night, as they had said they wanted to do. Indeed it is believed that expect reinforcements. Today they say that they should be members of new party together with d. John Bolognini in charge 'of Spain. Meanwhile the people continued to stay above the arms, continues to go in search of the Jacobins, and the riots continue. A few years ago, under the government of Regente Cav. d.
La mattina si è cominciato a sentire il cannoneggiamento, and has been known to have been attacked by two French columns, one for the road of Capodichino and the other to that of Poggioreale. The people have made the most valid defense, without head, without any help of regular troops or cavalry. Moliterno has also abandoned, having closed in the castle of St. Elmo together with the Duke of Roccaromana. The defense of the people was such that he rejected the French and was beaten at about 17. The castle of St. Elmo has pulled four guns and has raised the banner flag, but was lifted after a few hours. Throughout the day, the two columns were in action, and close the evening it was said that the French had sought rest, expect more news. The City
has published a proclamation it 'follows: It begins by introducing the physical ailments that have their origin in the moral, having so completely exhausted the source of' human remedies, he believed his duty to throw absolutely essential in the arms of God, in consultation with the His servant and sacred minister d. Tommaso Fiore, who has assured the City and Deputation of high protection of God, s. Gennaro, and our ss. Lawyers, to this faithful people, and having also instructed the city to deal with all the peace and domestic tranquility of the citizens, leaving the protection of the Most agreed that the threat to external shock. After this introduction follows the City to say that for the lodge same servant of God, had arranged five novenas, one at ss. Conception, the church of St. Lawrence, a s. Michael, the church dedicated to him outside the city the Holy Spirit, that is wide and the third to s. Joseph, in his great church, the fourth of the Crucifix of Carmine, the Carmine church in its greater, and the last to s. Francis Xavier church in the greater Trinity. Concludes by saying this: "Meanwhile, lawmakers and the City in the midst of dangers and thrills continue with more heat and tormenting its serious efforts for the benefit of this fidelissima people, which concurring in the sights of his affectionate fathers, who should not pay more and more his trust and obedience to the body of the city, to quiet and slow down any rush or crime, thereby showing more and more worthy of the specious attribute fidelissima attachment to ss. Catholic religion, and faithful and obedient to the God from whom all good and prosperity can only emanate. " Of this good servant of God, old octogenarian priest, said he had assured the people. 22. By the time I write the French armies are within 'Naples, describing the incidents of this day would form on a volume, only mention it because I flatter myself there are those who write the history of the exact mutation. of our government. In Antignano villa, where I am, you hear the shelling started again towards the 15 to 17 hours or so. It is understood came a pillar of the French who had occupied those heights and marched directly to s. Elmo. All the people quiet of the villa has gone to take refuge in the country, among which I regard myself with the family, and the company of another family which is united. It was feared that people armed resistance of the mansion did not do, and you should see a. massacre. But, thank God, at the approach of the French have laid down their arms, so leaning towards that part of the column 'Antignano Brace Case is said that, our place of abode, had all found in stillness, it passed over, doing it on Camin of some highlands have pulled the shot which killed two French soldiers. He fired the column to that part, then turned to the Vomero, where it was welcomed by the Prince of Belvedere, then went on to s. Elmo that was opened by our generals and Moliterno Roccaromaria. They placed an advance guard, where the road splits between Vomero, Antignano and so s. Elmo, and specifically where the chapel is said Romito, or other inconvenience they have given to this district, which have indeed ensured not to be afraid of some nightmare, and have only asked for their money with the de 'lives.
What then happened to the low Naples is not that they can neither believe nor describe. Suffice it to say that it is a war seen live in the city center. Meanwhile the French army rode by always making the city opposite the people, so that the port district Capuana and became Pigne off the battlefield, especially when there was a high flame for seven consecutive hours, and the French army is saw on the verge of relegation. Sovragiunse degl'Incurabili rescue of young people who fired on, the castle of St. Helmet that flashes to the same gun with a machine gun; the towers of St. Giovanni a Carbonara, and the guns posted on the streets were a constant fire that lasted the entire day. Meanwhile, the French columns made up in these 'places, and disbanded a few games looting some houses.
E 'to point out, on 22 November, the King of Naples, marched to Rome with his army on 22 December put to sea to go and flee to Palermo, where he is, on January 22 and entered the French in Naples day on Tuesday. I will continue my journal indicating not only the date but also the day running.
Mercordì gennaro 23. The morning continued the popular resistance, and lasted until 22 hour, when yielded the village of Loreto in Naples and other places. He rightly feared the sack of the city, and it was then known to have also provided, and must say that this outburst dovevasi to the soldier who had shed blood to force the city won. They were also printed Tickets for exemption for the properties of 'quiet citizens who wanted to exempt itself. But after the intercession of 'good, and the gentleness and clemency with the general Championnet, prevailed.
At 22 and a half then saw a short proclamation posted [9] in which with short but energetic words, this generous general announced to the people, for a moment he had stayed the fury of the victorious soldiers, and ensure all people in and property, provided they were back in the quiet and had delivered in New Castle all the weapons, threatening to shoot whoever dared to pull a shot in the city, or who continue to keep weapons hidden. I read this proclamation, I was able to have a copy, having the insert in the margin. Thursday, 24
gennaro. To me, with my company continue to be in the country, came the news this morning that the bag had to be, as determined in the meantime we give back to the city, so we wanted to make sure. Am I then fell to town with my brothers' friend and a companion. The first advance guard that we found was at Romito, mounted by two officers and twenty soldiers. At the bottom, put his House of Study, were another garrison with cannon, and there received the weapons. Off the Pigne then a portion of the army was encamped, a sentry in front of goal Constantinople, another in front of goal s. Gennaro, where he had formed a guard.
The city breathed gloom in certain streets, deserted and desolate. Signed three decrees were posted by 'citizens in general and general Roccaromana capita Moliterno, who assured the people of the French army had come to save them from the oppression of the past government, and gl'insinuava peace and quiet and the performance of weapons. Another view was that the general Championnet re-elected general of the said two citizens and Moliterno Roccaromana. The third of General Kellermann as saying by the New Castle, be the French who came to give us the peace and had to use force, so all crept to return in good order and to give evidence and produce weapons.
Si è pubblicato insieme another proclaims that contains the system of government of the new Republic provisorio given to 25 people that do not transcribe the names, being able to read the printed copy of the proclamation dippiú in which I keep. Finally order was published for a Te Deum in the church of St. Lorenzo to be sung more solemnly this morning, and ten days of exposure to the Venerable thanksgiving for having rescued.
an hour at night has sent the following message from His Eminence circular
On the order of His Eminence the Cardinal Archbishop of Naples, the city has been established that in all the churches of 'religious men and women of this city as there would be exposure of the SS. Sacramento for eight consecutive days with the prayer pro gratiarum action, happy for the entry of French arms in the capital: and that the pastors of all churches in this same city since they were ordered to continue the exposition of the SS. Sacramento and preaching to be done to the people, suggests the peace, good order and obedience to the laws, make them understand that with the republican arms protected especially from Providence, they have reclaimed this people, and came to establish and consolidate its happiness , still challenged by the extraordinary miraculous liquefaction of the blood of our patron s. Gennaro, which occurred in the same evening of the entrance of the French.
That same evening the lighting has been ordered to be made for three nights in the city, and was executed. Addi
26. The order for three evenings of illumination was posted this morning [11] , over such a lighting estraordinaria, orders as well, which in every night chase each citizen should also outside of his house because the city remains a beacon lit , and the Public provvegga quiet. It also ordered that the bells were only the sonar noon, at 24, one hour at night, and midnight, not at other times. It is said that yesterday was sent to a Speronari Palermo was carrying a dispatch to the King of Naples, who very nearly contained the following sentiment. Ferdinand Capet the Neapolitan Republic, established with the French I know that in a few days ago ... you must return the money stolen from banks in 30 million, compensation for damages cagionatele, otherwise we declare war.
the barony then party with him, he says that may well have ordered in a specified period, returned to town, otherwise considered to be migrated with the confiscation of property [12] . The theaters are open for order, having removed the signs from the expression of Teatro Real.
Sunday 27. The order of General Championnet in Sicily is said to have been directed to the Senate, requesting it to make sure the people of Ferdinand Capet and his family with all the treasures they brought, as well as the person of General Acton, threatening otherwise to take vengeance against the Sicilian Nation. Last night was the general Championnet Theatre Fund, ov'ebbe great applause and cheers from the public gathered there. This morning then it was with great pomp to attend the Te Deum sung followed by the General's Residence in Roccaromana Moliterno and his officers and other higher level. On leaving the church gave gold coins to the poor, while mounting a horse, are the cheers of the people there began to crowd the competition. He has lifted his hat, and shouted "Long live freedom." He immediately echoed by the people with endless transport. The castles are all subject to the general, so that somewhere in the city, which no one knew the cause of the shot, it was spread fear. D. The · General is good-looking man, below 40 years of age.
The notice for the stage of s. Carlo this evening has been posted in the following terms: "In the National Theatre, S. Charles gives Nicaboro to solemnly commemorate the expulsion of the tyrant in the second act, song and dance similar '. It has been posted warning that the stakes would be racing, as before, but warned to address the Citizen. He also published an edict which I keep, marked with N ° ... On the top of the page is written in the left side of liberty, equality, right, follows the following title: "The commander Brigadier General Dufresne the city of Naples and strong." It contains eight articles. The 1. French stay prohibits any member of the weapon without the express order of the Municipality. 2. yesterday joined members of the Government provisorio, and among the things proposed, there was to arm a legion to march to the National Palermo, meanwhile, is said already on that island there is the insurrection, and that the Court has fled. For the waiver of certain provisorio appointed to the Government, as Flavio Pirelli, former secretary of the Chamber director, and Domenico Cirillo, primary physician and professor of the university, there was no mutation, and am elected, Prosdocimo Rotunno, law professor, and one that Fran. Saverio Pepe, abbot, also have been uplifted Severo Caputo and another, but do not know who are the sueceduti.
Monday 28. The mutation provisorio followed in the government, was in the following subjects: they removed Bassal, Stanislaus Renzis; Luogotelli, Matthew Zarrillo, Severo Caputo, Flavio Pires. Have succeeded him: Paribelli Cesare, Giuseppe Albanian, Pasquale Baffi, Francesco Pepe, and Prosdocimo Rotondo, for a successor has not been given and why ultra number.
opened this morning customs, and given the orders that the workshops be reopened the lot. In a notice to the public, it was said that the banks did not pay it unless he bring faiths credit, no other orders, which is placed in doubt, whether or not notice faiths have their course.
This evening has been illuminated for the fourth time in the city. And, as the Vesuvius eruption that after the amazing de 'June 15, 1794 that buried the Tower, no longer had any sign of smoke, began the first evening of enlightenment to bring up its flames again, Šibenik without noise, so you was who has published the following couplet: I
Championnet Summo Italicarum copiarum Emperors Dysticon
Urbs nocte illucet: flammas addit Vesuvius, Quid? plaudit comes natur et ipsa tibi Civis Cajetanus Todiscus
Last night at the Theatre of St. Charles made the biggest noise, and cried aloud: "Long live freedom, death to the tyrant" and he appointed various other subjects of hatred for the nation, as Acton, Castelcicala, and others.
Tuesday 29. Many edicts and proclamations have submissions published this morning, which is not possible to summarize, but I hope to keep many units in these memoirs, he also announced the publication of a Monitore Napoletano, who will give news of all transactions of the Government. Before the Royal Palace, which now is called the National, has raised this morning, the tree of freedom and competition with great solemnity. They killed all emblems that denote sovereignty, such as crowns, lilies and others, who were attached to that building, after he lifted the tree, dancing around to it.
I was told that in the Teatro de 'Fiorentini last night saw the first ballerina to dance, half naked almost to the obelisk, and having kissed her repeatedly with a dancer. If this is true, I am sorry, because I do not think that it corresponds to the maximum of the Government, announced that Virtue and Freedom, but not libertinism, and the theater if it gets corrupted, yet the costumes are corrupt, and I hope therefore that they give shelter to such ugliness. With more notice of what was said yesterday on the beliefs of credit, yet having said that the notice fedi vanno comprese sotto tal nome.
He said he passed by him in the hands of the people of the notes' outlaws of the past government, and the carnage of the unhappy Duke Tower, was procured by force of gold, because this person was known to have been intended to chair the 'National Assembly. The Prince of the Rock, also Filomarino like d. ° Duke Tower was about to be treated equally, and you can still see his battered palace fire that attacked the Lazzaroni, and from which he freed himself by force d ' gold. Large sums of cash is said to have used to raise the people, and eighty thousand guns were withdrawn until today they show that at least 60m. were in the hands of the people, because at the 20m. it may deducted for what is held by gentlemen amateurs of hunting. ,
Having seen three British frigates that approach, eras that were not entered in doubt mal'intenzionate, but it was learned that to see the tricolor flag, had sent a boat ashore with a man who was arrested in the past and Castle, where is found. Meanwhile, the frigates have departed. There are those who believe that there could be over was King of Naples, as it is said that the family was re-embarked for London, and he wanted to pass by our seas for news of Naples, for me I do not see it credible. Caroline of Austria in the beginning because the provisions had left Naples and its inhabitants were destroyed, do not think this place was the king planned to approach, if not when was the desire to see the hoped-ELP aims.
Thursday 31. The fall of Assisi was a voice out last night that produced the problem that I mentioned, but the Government has remedied immediately felt by the notice, which would be subject to punishment, both those who sell over the meeting, what buyers want less of the same . It was also stated in the notice that, for now having bought expensive kinds, they could not sell at the lowest price.
Pignatelli's arrest in Palermo is secure. Meanwhile, by proclamation published by General Roccaromana Championnet sanctioned by the General, called upon all to join the military under the banner National march to drive out the tyrant in Palermo. The municipality then with another proclamation invites everyone to enroll themselves for the urban militia lest the city is quiet and defended by its own citizens.
Two facts are becoming more honor to the general Chiampionnet, making them know the good feelings. One happened yesterday, and it was that three French soldiers joined in a three Neapolitans pannetto stole embroidered with the image of the Crucifix, which is greater in the Carmine. As part of the theft to the General, he put her in person at the Carmine, and subject to due diligence, we found the pannetto and thieves, and he giving three hours of time, made them shoot off the tanning and thrown into the sea. The other is: if asked permission pei public feasts at the Theatre of s. Carlo, and he condescended there was already so much that was said doversene make four, starting tonight. But he knew that would not allow them, saying that all day had complaints of impertinence that commettevansi by his soldiers toward women, and therefore did not want to expose people to some disorder, since men and women in a public place.
The way of thinking is wise and religious, and it must be said that among the fatteci thank the Lord God, we have done is to allocate this worthy subject the company to Naples. I am told that Sunday was seen crying in the Treasury to liquefaction of the blood of s. Gennaro, who asked if he had the head of the Saint series, he was told that, yes, but if he had brought the King showed appalling, made a gift to the Saint of another series and a full ring. For more de 'Geronomini and more of the Trinity, which was to ask if they could make Carnevaletti, that the solemn exposition of the SS.O that in the four Sundays for five consecutive days of Carnival are made in Naples with great pomp and devotion, he said , who did everything for the past eras did, and gave an equal response to the sermons. It happened yesterday
says the following anecdote. He introduced himself to the Government provisorio an abbot and asked for the floor, he was given and he said that its government to be elected provisorio for members of that probe the most people and virtuous, then he had cheated in the choice of the citizen Prosdocimo Rotondo, who was present there, in the exercise of the profession because he had become known for a little good and prevarication, and that so far was likely to be the person who gave was due to the jubilation of his protector, adviser d. Andrea Tontola. After this complaint, the President Laubert, replied saying that if it were true as alleged, the city would Rotondo released by the Government, if it not the case, and he, or had been deceived, or had been moved only by zeal for public good, the Government would have suffered, but if he had found that he had done the hatred and envy poorly understood, they would be punished.

[3] Fu salvato miraculously by the pastor of St. Mark Angelo a, d. Bartholomew de Cesare, and the Duke of s. Valentino.
[4] We came after the French word better understood that it was worth the call.
[5] Not many months after it was learned that the whole truth. Salandra was attacked by a body of revolutionary Jacobins, who wanted extinct because they were afraid of him and his people, because attached to the King
[6] It was learned later that they were the revolutionary party. Here's some of that after this I learned from those who took part. For about two hundred people seeing that the popular fury threatened the ruin of the city, especially taking the castles in hand, together with Roccaromana, settled at night to surprise the castle that was to be opened by Roccaromana, who was in the concert to be at the command of the castle. They took therefore set itself the citizens time and gave the sign that was responding to those who live, Partenope. But the fact was that Roccaromana later he found himself being deployed in Naples, where the garrison of the People's castle, he cried to arms, betrayal, and fired three guns, to which citizens were lost. That, however, that could not happen on the night of 19, occurred the following day. Moliterno made a harangue to the people to induce him to surrender, he retired in s. Elmo, making out the garrison of the people. The same was then made in the other castles, Carmine is one of the most sustained, but struck down by the castle s. Elmo yet sold in 23 days. Please note that all these maneuvers were de 'rebels, who wanted to make sure the' entry of 'the French, and so do
[7] It is not possible to describe the excesses of which hath been given the people so furious at this that' the following day , someone will mention it to me come to the notice. Already flowing in the streets threatening anyone, then made two parties, one attacking the other, and what the other one ordered prevented. For example, a party had to scream that they expel the lights from the windows, with their guns in the face imposed it, the other ordered them to drop, and forced with the same manner citizens to remove the lights One cried all the doors locked, all at the other gates are open. One, their heads thrown from the balconies and astrici, and the other prevented by pulling the shot. In short, the status of the honest people are not happy. Besides the Duke Tower, and d. Joseph Zurlo, were attacked the houses of the Duke of Melissa, was sacked to Solimene, which was set on fire. And everywhere brings charm threatening fire went up to the houses asking for money for troops. The night of '22 was completely plundered the monastery of St. Gaudioso and burned the church. Looted the houses nearby, so the excellent family of the Marquis de Rosa, composed of the old Marquis, director d. Thomas, the son and daughter-house Young stems, and two other second son, was necessitated night walk to go seeking shelter elsewhere. The house of the Prince of Sirignano d. Thomas Caravita Fontana Medina was threatened by the fury of the people of fire, having already surrounded by bundles for no other reason than because there had been the Vice-Consul of France, and was saved by a miracle. The nuns of St. Andrea, to avoid being prey to the flames, they went out that night escorted by French troops used the infinite respect. In short, is conclusive, if it had not arrived, as you say, 22 days in the French army, Naples would be ruined and destroyed completely.
[8] It was not true
[9] At this time The Royal Palace was ransacked by the people who carried away not only mobile but also of the bushes and up to Vetrone of windows and balconies, when he was beating by a cannon shot that took a machine gun s. Elmo, thinking it was riot. It is said that after the sack to the building was a variety of images to deviar the people who wanted to continue to fight armor, France. Many houses were also looted part of Neapolitans, from the French side in the first moments, and ere they were hampered by the orders of General elementissimi Championnet prescribed in his proclamation that "I have suspended 'and so on.
Uno di questi uffiziali francesi disse, che la differenza between the Neapolitan and the Roman TRAL was like wine and water. The bag had been promised in three districts of Naples, that is s. Lucia, a small jetty, and markets, as this population was the most furious, however, had already formed two thousand tickets for the security of the people quiet neighborhoods themselves. But having represented the general that could very well be that people take advantage of the exemption troublemakers, and the good citizens succumb to the damage of the bag, he, as it is of great heart, all'intutto suspended, and he announced in his proclamation. It is not doubted by the fortune of Naples have had the French army general who is this enemy of violence, bloody anything, very human and warm-hearted. He said an officer, that if he came Bonaparte, a lot of resistance, Naples would be half ruined by fire and sack.
[11] There has worth one hundred ducats to those who run it.
[12] On today as well, which according to the French calendar is 6 Nivoso, it was the general Championnet issued the following edict: (Ed note: no)

Iadone

before retracing the path of City of "La Piana, Piana and Villa Santa Croce, Piana di Caiazzo and finally Piana di Monte Verna" is a must open a parenthesis here concerning Villa Santa Croce which for the first three years after the promulgation of these laws, is to assume the status of municipality (until 1809) as happened to many other localities of Caiazzo, including St. John and Paul, but that fact has created more problems for the small community (now village of Plain Monte Verna), was that it was aggregated to 'University of Sasso.
it was from 1757 and until 1811 for a Villa Santa Croce topographical error, was combined with that university, and Villesi suffered severe hardships, especially during winter months, which were seen to reach Formicola forced to travel a distance of 20 mile, partly because of the mountains the road became impassable in winter.
Finally, the chronicle of those days that reminds us July 26, 1805, the district also plans Caiazzo, and then was struck by a terrible earthquake. The Canon
Iadone described the damages regarding plans and Villa Santa Croce: La Piana
, landslides, cracks in the territory, increased flow of springs and wells, water turbidity, light phenomena and diamonds, the earthquake reaches the maximum intensity around 7-8th grade Mercalli Scale. Some country houses suffered major damage, because the roofs of five houses fell with a portion of the walls of the upper deck, eight more apartment houses were damaged in a manner even in the lower floors. There was one dead and one wounded.
Villa Santa Croce, any small lesions further damage, no dead or wounded, the earthquake here reached its maximum intensity at around 6 degrees on the Mercalli scale. The report detailed
Iadone Canon is explained in Chapter III of our journey through time. The Canon
Iadone, he compiled a statistic in which he described the whole district of Caiazzo, and surrounding areas. Even in this case the text is reproduced in full.
The District of Caiazzo (1807-1811)

The territory of the former diocese of Caiazzo is surrounded on three sides (north, east and south) from the Volturno River and is bordered to the west by the chain of Monte Maggiore [1].
La città di Caiazzo con i casali di Piana, Villa Santa Croce, San Giovanni e Paolo, e i castelli di Raiano, Alvignanello, Campagnano e Squille, were fiefs of the marquis of Caiazzo Antonio Courses [5], Alvington, Dragons and Maiorano, were fiefs of the Prince of Piedimonte Onorato Gaetani d'Aragona [6], the feudal rights of Latin America and belonged to the Bay Area Pasquale Samnites [7] Formicola Finally, with its houses Doctors, Audun, Cavallari, Fondola, Cross - that the diocese of appartenenva Teano - and Treglia, and the castles of Pontelatone, Schiavi, Merangeli, Prophets, Cese, Sassa and farmhouses Prejano, Tanker, and Stratford, were fiefs of the Carafa di Maddaloni dukes and barons of Formicola [8].
feudal administration will be flanked, and sometimes in opposition, that of citizens: the university. It was not only administrative but political prerogatives [9], the citizens were divided in two classes both voters, only those belonging to the first class, the landowners, however, were eligible [10].
The "elected" held office for one year. A Caiazzo (including the small village of Cesarano) elected four were elected, in each of the other listed cottages and castles of the Marquis of Caiazzo two elected were elected, as well as in Formicola (including houses) and in each of the castles, and so on Alvington, Latina, and Baia; Dragons were elected to three elected, two of the city and one of the hamlet of Maiorano [11]. The subversive
Law of 2 August 1806, abolishing the feudal power, increased that of the universities.
With Law and Administration Division United [12], they were recognized as the sole agency of local government employees only by provincial stewards [13].
With the administrative reorganization carried out, the provinces of the kingdom were divided into districts [14], in turn divided into districts in court which included the university, known since then legally
also common [15]. In the district of St.
Mary, the seventeenth district was established to Caiazzo. It included the municipalities of Caiazzo, Piana, Villa Santa Croce, Alvignanello, Baja, Countryside, Cesi (sic), Tanker, Dragons, Fondola, Formicola, Latina, Lautoni, Merangeli, Pontelatone, Rajano, San Giovanni e Paolo, Schiavi, Squilla (sic), Treglia, Prejano, Maiorano [16].
Among the provisions of law cited December 8, 1806, there was a possibility given to municipalities under one thousand inhabitants to meet each other or with those who had a number not more than three thousand. In
district Caiazzo were carried out between 1807 and 1811, the following "meetings" in common [17]: St. John and Paul met with Raia, rings and Alvignanello with your campaign, Plain and Villa Santa Croce with Caiazzo, with Latin Bay ; regarding Formicola, Sasso, Schiavi, and Pontelatone each met with their houses [18].
With the institution of Justices of the Peace [19] the District of Caiazzo was divided into two Justices of peace: that of Caiazzo and to Formicola. The first included the municipalities and district of Caiazzo, Piana, S. John and Paul Raia, Countryside, Squille, Alvington, Alvignanello, Dragons and district, and the second included Formicola and district, and circ.rio Schiavi, S. Villa Cross, Bay and Latin Pontelatone, Cese, Tanker, or is Prei Sasso (sic) [20].
This territorial division was challenged by a petition sent to Villa S. dall'eletto Cross to the Minister of Justice, in which it set out the difficulties that were the natural reach Formicola - situated about seven miles - and which required that the joint meeting in one of Piana, was attached to the Justice of Caiazzo, about a mile and a half [21]. The petition
part of the "Draft rectification de 'districts of the Justices of the Peace of the Province of Terra di Lavoro" [22] and with the Decree of 4 May 1811 No 922 "on provincial boundaries, districts, and districts, in the district of Capua were established two new districts of Caiazzo (consisting of Caiazzo: Flat, Villa Santa Croce, Alvington, Dragons, Campaign: Squille, Alvignanello, Raia, St. John and Paul) and Formicola (consisting of houses and Formicola, Sasso and houses, slaves and houses, farmhouses and Pontelatone, Bay: Latina) [23]. Between 1809 and 1810 the historian Caiatine Iadone Pasquale [24] developed a statistical analysis of all district boundaries is well described Caiazzo total the same as that of the Justices of the Peace and noting the problems that emerged from the splitting [25].
The "Statistics", unpublished, provides a valuable "insight into historical" certainly useful for those who are about to deal with the history of the countries of the diocese of Caiazzo: this is the reason that prompted me to write it down and publish it.
STATISTICS
Article 1: Mountains, their names, and the border district of Caiazzo
This is mostly mountainous and hilly, with mountains as a chain of adjacent hills divide it into two parts as pulling to the West ' East, and those mountains are the same shape at all, as the same are different, and are interrupted by valleys. Since Caiazzo as the center, or rather as the fire of that district, and the Diocese will say something first of the hills on which the City, and surrounding it, then it will exhibit the mountains of east and last place in the western mountains, dividing all numbers in order to avoid confusion.
Number 1
City, as dirassi in its place, is fabricated on two hills, which are a continuation of the mountains Calatini; one is called the Fosse, and the other castle, the hill known as the Fosse s' rises of about 180 steps from the level of the river Volturno, which bathes the roots of the nearly noon, and the Castle of about 200 steps.
are mentioned together with both mountains and the east, e dall'ovest; e vengono circondate da alte colline, qua, e là disperse, ed interrotte da piccolissime valli, e pianure.
Numero 2
La sommità dei monti, che si è detto be better to say to the east or northeast of Caiazzo formed as three orders of hills almost directly from south to north. Line principle, giving remote paths of Caiazzo about two miles an hour-body winter draws near Paterno, Mount Alifano (Osia Omodei), horns, and the Forest of Alvignanello. The midline also veering from south to north has joined the afore Hills Vineyards, and St. John and Paul, and contains the palace, the Serole, the Monticello, the Morrone Grande, Olivella, and Mastrantuono. The line west from Principia Guaranelle, the main peaks are Mount Carofalo, Sangiovanni Raiano, coastline, Centomoggia and west of these is attached to the mountainous forest of Spinosa, Selva Piana, a time Royal Hunts. Their elevation from mid-day the most contiguous to the City is within walking distance of most of Castle Hill, and is gradually diminishing in such a way that ends in the north of the river Volturno in a rapid decline at all: even so all three lines sull'istesso river from the east, and west with the plane of Caiazzo, and Alvington, Monte Alifano, however, in the west form a precipitous cliff. Their shape is almost all equal in length Toltén few small prominences, so that they form a view of the vague appearance of hills broken by small val-li, and plans it had formed.
Most of these mountains and covered with forests of Cerri, with a few feet of Oak, Orni, Maples, Plantains, Carpani, and shrubs.
Number 3
Previous Mountains, which are the East of Caiazzo, the group combined to form a corner of the western mountains by the Pass, which is based on the Town, Hill of Grace, and Selvetelle , which ends at S. Mountain Cross, behind which end, the mountains of Caiazzo, and the principle of the rule of those Formicola. And since going from the north-east Caiazzo the height of the mountains fades, so far, that the City tends to the west is always increasing manner, which can be said of this principle, the Monti district with a false floor in the north East, and continuing east to west end coll'altezza di qualche considerazione nell'ovest, dove formano un'altra catena, che si estende dal libeccio al greco; quale un tempo fu chiamato Monte Massimo, seco gli di cui gioghi ne conduceva il suo esercito Fabio il Cavaliere; ed in generale si chiamano essi monti Caprari da D. Francesco Caraffa; in particolare poi dando principii a libeccio e si appellano S. Maria a Costantinopoli, il Salvatore per una cappella di tal nome; la Rocchetta; Madama Marta; Monte Maiulo; e S. Angelo.
Quest'ultimo è il Picco più considerabile del Circondario, sì per l'altezza ch'è di circa mezzo miglio dal fiume, e sì per una grotta, ch'è dal lato boreale, la quale sembra come un tempio ricoverto di cupola; la lunghezza di tal vuoto è eighty-five of palms, the palms forty-two greater width, maximum height is about twenty-three palms, and a low of seven and a half is decorated with various stalactites, of varying size and shape.
E 'cave dedicated it to the Archangel St. Michele, this rise from the lower to other caves, but after some time encounter of 'water and can not later artifact.
These mountains start as many lines formed from the top of the hills from west to east, which are in part to join with the mentioned mountains of Caiazzo. From the south side of Mount Massimo a chain of hills, once these Callicola, which is completed after about five miles in a low level in the river Volturno Tephra: and you call the Hills of Formicola, of Bellona, \u200b\u200bof Jerusalem, Palombara (Sicopoli or both), and Tephra. The eastern slopes of these hills are in the appliances Formicola, and in that of Western Camigliano, and Bellona.
the north-east of Callicola, partition Valley Formicola, attack coll'istesso Monte Massimo Colli Trebolani once said, and I am pulling Caiazzo, Trivento, Cerreta, Forks, and S. Cross, they are in the last two Tenimento of Caiazzo. And going back to S. Cross the mountains to join and Sassa, slaves ending in that Mount St. Angelo.
the northern side of that line there is another, which in times past were the mountains of Compulteria, and Saticola, partition solo una lunga, ma ristretta montuosa valle, dov'è il Casale di Majorano di Monte, e divide il tenimento di Formicola da quello di Dragone.
Al nord di Cisterna framezzandovi a narrow precipitous valley is the hill that Ravecupa Angel, sticking glue Petrosa attributable to Pietramalara.
These are the mountains of this district, most of them show the appearance of steep, and little or no access cliffs, a few of them are coverti of oaks, and other fruit trees, most of compieni spots, and rest is covered up the sun rocks.
Article 2: The River
the district is the only river Volturno, because Savona, who was born under the hill of Jerusalem, the borders and tingling of no account, ave this two-mile walk, and take before Volturno in motion by a number of mill grinders. The Volturno
ave therefore its origin in the countryside of Molise above of Isernia, and doing laps later varje the course of about eighty miles we take in the Mediterranean in Castle Volturno, increased by several rivulets, and the Heat, who are united with it .
Cajazzo Closes the district on three sides by the north wind from the east and south. Its depth is different, the mizzen is about six palms. The bed of him ave different latitude, from Baja Alvignano is off until about thirty paces above the rings after heat combined with the steps fifty-four Volturno, the width under Cajazzo him, is about fifty steps.
Article 3: Boundaries of Circondarj Caiazzo, and Formicola
The Environment old Cajazzo is located on the north-east of Terra di Lavoro, it is almost her boundaries on this side, since about three miles distant from the Matese. By reason could be called a peninsula, and is surrounded by the Volturno River from the north, giving the principle town of Baja, and falling for one of Latin Dragon, Alvington, and Rajano; closes by pulling from the east Rajano the Alvignanello ; the country, and rings, and then bathes in the south of the Hill Callicola Cajazzo up. Is then closed to the south-west and west by the said Hill, and Mount Massimo, and finally terminates in the north from the mountains of Statigliano, Baja, and the forest of Petrosa. And
'said neighboring district to the north co' circondarj Piedimonte, Cusano, Cerreto, the east with that of S. Agata dei Goti, the south with the District of Caserta and Capua; framezzandovi with all the Volturno River, from 'the west to the borders with the districts of teacher Pignataro, and Pietramalara by the mentioned mountains.
That was the old situation of that district, but today, that has divided the border is without rules, especially PEL District of Formicola, where each order is destroyed, and regular topographical Here while the boundaries in accordance with this state.
The Environment Today Cajazzo principle by Dragone and continuing for the municipalities of Alvington, Rajano, Alvignanello, countryside, and rings, and the District of Cajazzo, as mentioned, is closed until Vallone said the Volturno River Congo, where first the district tingling, then going for it from the south to the Rio to the woods north of Stratford, and specifically in the ruins of an ancient chapel of St. Maximum distance of about four miles from the City of Cajazzo, borders the District of tingling, pulling, and then from west to east is adjacent to the towns of Stratford, Sassa, and S. Villa Cross, Hamlet of Cajazzo today the district of Formicola through the mountains of Cerreta, Forks, and S. Cross, Pozzillo and the street, from S. Cross leads down to Cajazzo to the place called the Selvetelle, less than a mile away from the City of Cajazzo; istesso then falls PEL Pozzillo nuns and for the castagnella from south to north, then south-east by the master pulling PEL Bridge Fund Gennaro said the caves for water and losers Costafredda Balsatruda through the valley of Nocelle, is also adjacent to these three municipalities, is then divided by the Community of Slaves, and Prophets from the mountains of Slaves, and said peak S. Angelo, this is the end for now to confine with the Rural District Formicola. Then decreasing from the western part of St. Angel from south to north along the coast of Melito, the Valley of New House, and for the borders with the Morrone del Musco
City Statigliano District Pietramolara, and down to the oak of the Basin, which is on the western slopes of the Mount said Trivolesca, PEL-rato sin Pontemu valley where we take in the Volturno, is separated from the Rural District Cajazzo Municipalities of Baja, and Latin America, who also belong to the district tingling, though it separated by valleys and precipitous mountains, which belong to the City of majors of Monte Casale Dragon. The District of
Formicola is divided into two clear, one of them almost inaccessible portions. The portion formed from the ancient Barony of Formicola and S. Villa Casale cross borders with the District of Cajazzo Cajazzo istes-so in terms mentioned above, is then closed from south of the small stretch of the Volturno, and Monte Calligola; West is terminated by the Monte Massimo.
Articolo 4: Estensione in lunghezza, e larghezza, e miglia quadrate dell'intiero Circondario
Essendo la figura dell'intiero circondario irregolare, com'è irregolare il giro del Volturno, è puranche irregolare la di lui lunghezza, e larghezza; e così anche poco some measure in square miles, so here's the best approxima-mata. Pulling a line from southeast to northwest, ie from the countryside at the western borders of the Land of Baja, almost skimming along the river is it about Environment sixteen miles. The line then south almost parallel to the first roots of the river upstream of Paterno in rings of relevance to the western terminus of the Peak St. Angelo longitude, about nine miles. It can therefore be said to be the average longitude of sixteen miles. The Go-latitude from the south-west to north-east, ie from the hull of Cajazzo, commonly of Caserta, to Alvignano is about forty miles, and all the ground ninety-six square miles.
